Fellow Braves and Bravettes from the Class of 1977

Let me echo the thoughts and feelings I have been reading about the last few days regarding the Class of 1977’s 30th Luther High School South High School Anniversary Reunion Weekend. We looked extremely well overall as a class. Each of us must remember the challenging times of adolescence and what we endured during those times. The mid to late 70’s were trying times for the city of Chicago and we are all fortunate to be here.

Do we know how to throw a first class party or what? Loren, Karen and other class leaders did a remarkable job to ensure that each of us would be happy and satisfied that weekend, and we were! To Mr. and Mrs. Terry Johnson thank you for setting out your home to us at the last minute and the great and genuine hospitality that you shared. Even after the 30 years since graduation or the 20 years since our last reunion and though we had not seen each other, none of us were strangers. It only took a split second to rekindle the spark that made us one of the better classes to graduate from Luther South. And we still stick together. Other classes marvel us for our accomplishments and the associations we have with one another.

Coach Doll mentioned that he coached the Luther South State Basketball Champions and since they were freshmen while we were seniors, we all are Champions due to the guidance and leadership we knowingly or unknowingly provided to that class. Those instructors who came back to be a part of our Anniversary says an awful lot about the commitment Luther South instilled in each of us. One instructor indicated that this was his first invitation to participate in this type of class reunion.

The idea to close the weekend celebration with a Church service hosted by Luther South featuring Russ Belisle stayed in line with the Christian values we were taught. This should remind us of why we are here on this Earth according to His word. It also reminded us of those mandatory Tuesday morning Chapel services. I had an extremely good time!

Go Braves of Luther South,

We’ll fight on to victory,

Win Braves and you will see,

What exciting heroes you’ll be,

So, go Braves of Luther South,

And hold your head up high,

We’ll stand up and give a cheer

For a victory of Luther High

Sincerely,

Gregory A. Clark
